JESSIE HUGHES

JACKSON -- A memorial service for Jessie C. Hughes of St. Louis was held at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis. The Rev. Jeff Long officiated.

Hughes, 85, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis. She was born June 21, 1912, in St. Louis, daughter of Wellman and Fannie Mills. She and Arthur F. Hughes were married March 8, 1941, at Jackson. He died Oct. 1, 1991.

Hughes had been a bookkeeper at a beverage company in St. Louis. After retiring the couple moved to Sun City, Ariz. She returned to St. Louis after her husband died. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in St. Louis.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Brice of Jackson; a son, Richard Hughes of St. Louis; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and a sister.
