MURPHYSBORO, Ill. -- Jessie Abernathie Blaylock, 81, of Murphysboro died Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
She was born Nov. 21, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., daughter of Judah Palestine and Mary Evaline Angle Seabaugh. She first married the Rev. Gordon C. Abernathie Sr. May 23, 1936, at Benton, Mo. He died Dec. 14, 1975. She and Lester "Bud" Blaylock were married Jan. 1, 1980, at Boskeydell. He died March 15, 1994.
Blaylock was a member of Boskeydell Baptist Church. She served as minister for Central Baptist Church in Willisville several years. She was active in Boskeydell Church and First Baptist Church in Murphysboro. She was active in Helen D'aboy Circle at First Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan Fletcher of Murphysboro, Sonya Adkerson of Glen Carbon; a son, Dr. Gordon Abernathie Jr. of Rapid City, S.D.; two sisters, Ruby Bollinger of Phoenix, Ariz., May Rayburn of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Friends may call at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Bailey and Gary D. Stowasser will officiate. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.
