SIKESTON -- Jesse Whittley, 74, of Sikeston, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1993, at the John J. Pershing Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
He was born Sept. 4, 1918, at Bell City, Mo., son of William M. and Emma Elizabeth Arnold Whittley.
He married Glenda Kirby, Aug. 23, 1940, at Bloomfield, Mo.
Whittley was a retired farmer. He had also worked as a truck driver for Valley Steel Corp.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Blodgett, Mo.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jesse Whittley Jr. of Sikeston; five daughters, Gene Emerson, Louise Coatney, Sheila Russell and Terrye Suver, all of Sikeston, Sue Webb of Harrisburg, Ill.; a step-son, Benny Cook of Oran; a sister, Bessie Case of Essex, Mo.; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, with the Rev. Lee Fansler officiating.
Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Morley, Mo.
