CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Jesse A. Statler, 86, of Chaffee died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Lixville, Mo., son of the late Julius S. and Willie E. Statler Statler. He and Betty White were married June 30, 1962.

He was awarded two Bronze stars during World War II in the New Guinea, Southern Philippines campaigns during service in the U.S. Army.

He worked as a farmer before working in the painting department of Superior Electic Co. in Cape Girardeau, where he retired.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Dave (Brenda) White of Chaffee; a daughter, Carolyn (Wes) Campbell of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Jewell Friese of Perryville, Mo.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Vyron Yount officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with full military rites by the Missouri Honors Team.
