CHARLESTON -- Jesse Farmer, 77, of Charleston died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston. He was born July 22, 1921, in Charleston, son of Jesse N. and Dora Baker Farmer. He and wife Catherine Jane were married Dec. 28, 1946. She died March 28, 1998...

CHARLESTON -- Jesse Farmer, 77, of Charleston died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston.

He was born July 22, 1921, in Charleston, son of Jesse N. and Dora Baker Farmer. He and wife Catherine Jane were married Dec. 28, 1946. She died March 28, 1998.

Farmer had been an accountant with McBride Cooperage Co., and Simmons Equipment Co., retiring in 1983.

A lifelong resident of Charleston, he was a member of the United Methodist Church and Kiwanis Club. He served numerous times as president and vice president of Charleston Nutrition Center Board, and was currently president of Senior Citizens Advisory Council.

Farmer was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include a son, James "Bert" Farmer of Ridgeland, Miss.; a daughter, Mary Bush of Southaven, Miss.; a brother, Jack Farmer of Charleston; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Rick White and Richard Combs officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
