FROHNA, Mo. -- Jerry Unger, 78, of Frohna passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

One of eight children, Jerry was born March 16, 1935, to Bob and Oma Cobble Unger. He and Imogene Meyer were married Aug. 13, 1960, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna.

He was a 1954 graduate of Jackson High School, and served honorably in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 9, 1954, to Oct. 9, 1958. Jerry worked 10 years at the former Marquette Cement in Cape Girardeau. He then worked many years as an electrician at the former CAM Electric, K&K Electric and the former Mereck Electric. In the early 1970s, he and Imogene bought a farm near Frohna. In the 1980s, he became a self-employed electrician and crop/cattle farmer.

He had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg, Mo., more than 20 years and was also a member of VFW Post No. 4282 in Perryville, Mo. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Loving survivors include his wife of 53 years, Imogene of Frohna; two sons, Greg Unger of Frohna and Tom (Becky) Unger and their sons Bob and Dusty Unger, all of Frohna; six siblings, Bill (Janice) Unger of Jackson, Jim Unger of Monrovia, Calif., Angie (Mel) Delk of St. Louis, Judi (Charles) Fadler of Jackson, Karen (Delbert) Meinz of St. Louis and Sue Beck of Jackson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nancy Hale.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 8 a.m. to time of service Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altenburg.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Jonathan Stites officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Lutheran Family and Children's Services or a church or charity of your choice.
