Jerry Suedekum, 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at the Lutheran Home after complications from a stroke and pneumonia.

He was born Aug. 12, 1944, in Cape Girardeau to the late Herb and Elaine Niemeier Suedekum. Jerry married Linda Lindy Musgraves June 4, 1994.

Jerry graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1962 and from Southeast Missouri State University in 1967. He was a teacher, baseball and basketball coach at Notre Dame in Cape Girardeau and then for the Jackson School District. He umpired girls' softball at several surrounding schools and summer leagues at Arena Park. He taught drivers' education at Jackson. After retiring in 2002, Jerry taught drivers' education at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center.

He loved playing golf at Kimbeland and had made three "holes-in-ones!"

He was a member of Cape Bible Chapel for 30 years.

Jerry is survived by his wife; three sons, Brandon (Ashley), Jay (Gracie) and Blake (Kelly); stepdaughter, Meredith Musgraves (Derek) Devenport; seven grandchildren, Blake, Sophia and Emelia Suedekum, Lucille and Jackson Suedekum and Lindyn and William Devenport; sister, Janice Wilhoit; sister-in-law, Linda Suedekum, and her daughters and their family, Kelly (Tyson) Suhre and daughter, Addison, and Jamie Harris and son, Noah.

He was preceded in death by his father, who passed when Jerry was in college, and his mother in 1994. Jerry's brother, Roger, passed away in 2012.

Jerry was a loved father, husband, papa, teacher, coach and umpire.

Visitation will be from 9 until noon Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will follow at noon with Greg Schwab officiating. Burial will take place at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to Cape Bible Chapel.
