Jerry Simpkins

Jerry R. Simpkins Sr., 73, of Scott City passed away Friday, July 4, 2014, at his home.

Simpkins was born October 14, 1940, in Ilmo, Missouri, to Lloyd and Mary Kerns Simpkins. Simpkins married Maureen Kooyer who survives of the home on July 6, 2003, in Scott City.

Jerry was very involved and very proud of his fundraising efforts for the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. The one thing he loved most of all was riding his motorcycle.

Survivors include: a son, Jerry Ray and Sheryl Simpkins Jr. of Scott City; four daughters; Tori and Tommy Whalen of Stockbirdge, Ga., Toy Simpkins of Golconda, Illinois, Kay and Jeff Milligan of Harrisburg, Illinois, and Crissy and Steve Volle of Golconda; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two step sons; Brendon and Jessica Kooyer of Jackson and Daniel Kooyer and Cindy Garland of Cape; a step-grandson; and two step-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Boyd and Terry Simpkins; and a great-grandson, Dakota Simpkins.

A memorial service will be planned for a later date.

McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of local arrangements.
