Jerry J. Probst, 74, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born June 2, 1933, in Cape Girardeau, son of Fred L. and Blanche B. Knapp Probst.
Probst attended Cape Girardeau public schools and enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1949. He was inducted into active Army duty in 1958 and was discharged from the Army Reserve in 1962.
He was a firefighter for City of Cape Girardeau and worked for the former Preston Sign Co. in Cape Girardeau and a signage company in St. Louis. He spent 28 years with Craftsman Local 282 in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1985.
He was a member of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge 93 in Cape Girardeau and the Moolah Shrine for more than 25 years.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Probst of Miner, Mo.; two daughters, Elizabeth Rampley of Cape Girardeau, Jennifer Coomer of Advance, Mo.; four brothers, Larry Probst of Atlanta, William Probst of Marble Hill, Mo., Harold Probst of Oak Ridge, Mike Probst of New Wells, Mo.; a sister, Ersie Harris of Chesterfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. A Masonic service will be at 7 p.m.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Monahan officiating. Interment will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with graveside military honors.
