Jerry Hinkebein

Jerome "Jerry" Hinkebein, 87, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2006, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 4, 1918, in Laflin, Mo., son of M.G. and Bernadina Steinnard Hinkebein. He and Marie Stause were married Oct. 16, 1948, in Glennon, Mo.

He served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II, being awarded four Bronze Battle Stars and five overseas bars.

Jerry was a very creative brick mason, building beautiful structures throughout the area.

He was a lifetime member of VFW 3838 of Cape Girardeau, Past Commander of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and a charter member of the Honor Guard team.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was a 4th Degree Knight in the Bishop Timon Council 6405 in Jackson.

Loving survivors include his wife of 57 years of Jackson; six sons, Thomas (Laura), Roger (Terry), all of Cape Girardeau, Ronald, Robert (Joyce), Vaughn (Marsha), James (Janette), all of Jackson; a daughter Janice (Douglas) Bigham of Olive Branch, Ill.; a sister, Magdalen Stoverink of Leopold; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Susan Hinkebein, and six brothers.

Friends my call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson where an American Legion Service will be held at 7 p.m., and a Rosary at 7:30 led by the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, followed by Parish Prayers.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at the Immaculate Conception Church with Msgr. Ed Eftink officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights cemetery in Jackson with graveside military honors.
