Jerry Brey, 74, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 3, 1940, in Cairo, Illinois, to the late Milton and Loretto Brankel Brey.
Jerry was a parishioner at Old St. Vincent Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau. During his career, he worked more than 36 years as a sales manager for Luxco of St. Louis. He also served on various boards over the years, including First Tee, Parks and Recreation and the Cape Girardeau Country Club.
Jerry leaves his wife of 47 years, Judi Brey, of Cape Girardeau; his daughters, Tracie (Jim) Henry of Millersville and Kiley (Tim) Yeaglin of St. Louis; his brothers, Mike (Pat) Brey of Cairo, Jack (Kathy) Brey of Mounds, Illinois, and Tom (Christy) Brey of Sacramento, California; his grandson, Neal (Jessica) Lange of Jackson; his great-grandson, Porter Lange; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jerry was an avid sports enthusiast who followed and supported the local college and high school teams with his spirit and helpful hints to the referees and umpires, but his true love was always golf. He not only followed golf religiously, but also participated in it his entire life. His career took him all over the United States and Europe, and he managed to pack his clubs on every trip. He enjoyed playing every course he could, including St. Andrews, LaCosta, Greenbriar, Ballybunion, Spy Glass, Muirfield and hundreds of other courses, but his all-time favorite was Pebble Beach. In a fitting manner, he departed this life after watching the Masters golf tournament highlights Thursday night. This was his favorite tournament of the year. He will be dearly missed by friends and family alike.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
