CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Jeffrey Scott Umfleet, 47, of Calvert City, Kentucky, formerly of Chaffee, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, at his home, in the arms of his beautiful bride.

He was born July 29, 1967, in Cape Girardeau, to Larry and Carol Duncan Umfleet. He and Angela Marie Smith were married Nov. 28, 1992, at First Baptist Church in Chaffee.

Jeff graduated from Chaffee High School in 1985. He attended Southeast Missouri State University, later earning a degree in fire protection engineering from Penn State University.

He had worked in the field of sprinkler fitting since he was 18 years old, working for Premier Fire Protection Inc. of Paducah, Kentucky. He was senior vice president of Premier Fire Protection.

Jeff served on the board of directors for the Kentucky Fire Sprinkler Contractors Association. He was a Certified Kentucky Fire Sprinkler Inspector. Jeff was a member of Sprinkler Fitter Union Local 669. He served on various committees for AGC of Western Kentucky and participated with several functions for Southern Illinois Builders Association (SIBA).

He attended and participated in several educational and networking opportunities with American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA). He also attended several leadership workshops and classes. Jeff was a member of the Elks Lodge in Benton, Kentucky. He also was reported to be an excellent golfer and co-pilot.

Jeff loved life and his family. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. In his spare time you would find him with family and friends at the lake. He enjoyed boating, spending time with MacKenzie, and playing with his dogs, Milo and Bella.

He is survived by his wife, Angela Marie Umfleet of the home; sons Chaiz Rion Scheeter and Nicolis Brayden Umfleet; a daughter-in-law, Tiffany Richards Scheeter; a granddaughter, MacKenzie Rion Scheeter, all of Calvert City; his mother, Carol Umfleet of Cape Girardeau; parents-in-law, Janice and James Franks of Caldwell, Texas; a brother, Michael (Angela) Umfleet of Scott City; two sisters, Robin (Mark) McKinley of Cape Girardeau and Sheila Umfleet of Scott City; two brothers-in-law, Rob Smith of Calvert City and Randy (Robin) Smith Jr. of Caldwell; nephews and nieces, Jason (Brandy) Umfleet, Josh Smith, Amber Smith, Kelsey Smith, Ashlyn McKinley, Duncan McKinley, Jarrett Mull, Abbie Umfleet, Luke Umfleet, Isabella Umfleet, Gabriel Umfleet and Lucas Umfleet; grandmother, Virginia Duncan of Cape Girardeau; and grandmother-in-law, Alma Gilliam of Anna, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Umfleet, and father-in-law, Randy Smith Sr.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Collier Funeral Home in Benton, Kentucky.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial and butterfly release will be in Calvert City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Jeff requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society Memorial Foundation Hope Lodge of Nashville, 2008 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203.
