Jeffrey Layton

Jeffrey John Layton, 65, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, at his home.

He was born June 29, 1958, in St. Louis to Jerry and Betty Schweiss Layton.

He and Cynthia Grither were married Aug. 24, 1979, at Ste. Genevieve, Missouri.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.

He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Layton of Cape Girardeau; mother, Betty Layton of Ste. Genevieve; sister, Lori (Ron) Reinagel of Kelso, Missouri; two brothers, Tom (Connie Wisdom) Layton of Ste. Genevieve and Tim (Annita) Layton of Cape Girardeau; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by his father.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., with parish prayers at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 13, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
