Jean McLeod Trueblood, 94, of Kirkwood, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Clayton, Mo.
She was born Oct. 10, 1917, in Lebanon, Ind., to Leroy and Irene McLeod.
Following graduation from Occidental College in 1939, she moved to Honolulu and was there at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. After returning to the mainland, she married Dr. Alva Cooper Trueblood Jr. on Sept. 1, 1942.
Mrs. Trueblood was a longtime teacher at Tillman Elementary School in Kirkwood. Subsequently, she worked for the St. Louis County Special School District, teaching elementary school students who were homebound because of illness or injury. Later, she volunteered as a surrogate grandmother and teacher at Carmen Trails Elementary School in Kirkwood.
She was active in PEO International and also enjoyed traveling, walking, reading, and a Kirkwood book club, in which she was an active participant until her death. She attended First Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood.
Survivors include a half sister, Camilla McLeod; a daughter, Patricia Post (John) of Nashville, Tenn.; a son, Dr. Michael Trueblood (Mary) of Cape Girardeau; two nieces, Suzanne Evans Morris of Faber, Va., Catherine Evans Geiger of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren, Gavin Post of Asheville, N.C., Gaines Post (Fiona) of New South Wales, Australia, Dr. Andrew Trueblood (Amy) of Cape Girardeau, Emily Gardner (Erin) of Kirkwood; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail, Catherine, and Margaret Gardner, John and Thomas Trueblood.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and a brother, Vaughn Roderick McLeod.
The family is grateful to the staff at McKnight Place Extended Care, where Mrs. Trueblood spent the last two years of her life.
A memorial service and interment were held Feb. 7 at Valhalla Cemetery in St. Louis.
Valhalla Funeral Home in St. Louis was in charge of arrangements.
