Jean A. Shepherd, 64, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Jackson, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at her home. Jean A. Shepherd, 64, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Jackson, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2016, at her home.

The seventh of nine children, Jean was born May 24, 1951, in Jackson to George H. and Nellie M. Schreiner Smith. She and Jon Shepherd were married Sept. 10, 1999, at the gazebo of the Cape Girardeau County Courthouse in Jackson.

Jean was a graduate of Jackson High School. She worked 20 years at the former shoe factory in Jackson and currently was employed 25 years at the Drury Hotel National Call Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was a lifelong member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include her husband of 16 years, Jon of Cape Girardeau; five siblings, Dean Smith of Chaffee, Missouri, Laura Jo Smith, George Smith and Kim Martin, all of Jackson, and Mark Smith of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Zoe.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Bob, Dale and Charles Smith.

Visitation will be from noon until service time today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. 

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nancy Smith officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri Building Fund.
