Velma Jean Burns, 79, of Jackson died Monday, June 27, 2011, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Oct. 13, 1931, in Advance, Mo., to Jesse and Clola Ellen Long Stady. Jean graduated from Advance High School in 1950. She and Carlos "Bud" Burns were married Feb. 28, 1953. He died March 15, 1997.
Jean was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. She worked in the fitting room at International Shoe Co. in Jackson. She later worked with the activities staff at the Lutheran Home, retiring in 2000.
Survivors include a daughter, Carla Knotts of Jackson; a brother, Jesse Wayne Stady of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Doris (Harold) Bollinger of Jackson; three grandchildren, Eric Quick, Destiny and Dalton Burns.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; a son, Curtis; a brother, Roger; and a sister, Wilma Lee.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to service time Thursday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Dr. Grant F.C. Gillard officiating.
