J.D. Treadwell Jr., 82, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at his home, with his family by his side.
He was born Thursday, Feb. 15, 1934, in Purcell, Oklahoma, to James D. and Margaret Alma Ford Treadwell Sr. He and Joyce Mae Brown were married Feb.15, 1955, at Bakersfield, California.
At age 16, J.D. joined the Army and later the Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service to his country.
He had several truck-driving jobs locally before he started driving over the road. He retired from trucking in 1990 due to a stroke. J.D. loved to fly and obtained his private pilot’s license.
He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ, VFW Post 3838, St. Marks Lodge 93 A.F.&A.M., Moolah Shriners of St. Louis, St. Mark’s Chapter 167 Order of Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth and former member of White Shrine of Jerusalem. He also was a volunteer at Saint Francis Medical Center for 17 1/2 years and delivered meals for the Cape Girardeau Senior Center.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Mae Treadwell; son Greg (Barbara) Treadwell of Yellow Springs, Ohio; daughters Elaine (Steve) Crigger of Hampstead, North Carolina, Vicki (Gary) Dewrock of Cape Girardeau, Staci (Randy) Lueder of Cape Girardeau and Leslie (Steven) Felter of Jackson; brothers Donald (Rindy) Treadwell of Wrightwood, California, and Larry (Cathy) Treadwell of Bakersfield; sisters Bonnie (Larry) Lindsey of Sikeston, Missouri, and Sandra (Scott) Meyer of Bakersfield; sister-in-law Betsy Treadwell of Bakersfield; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Norman Treadwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with pastors Dan Johnson and Dave Schaffner officiating. Burial with military tribute will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospice.
