SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- James David "J.D." Simmons, 76, of Scott City died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 20, 1924, in Benton, Mo., son of Thomas Marion and Mina Edith Jacobs Simmons. He and Joy Jean Johnson Sander were married Nov. 17, 1958, in Commerce, Mo.
Simmons owned and operated the Phillips 66 service station in Scott City. He also worked for the Laborers Union Local 282.
He was a member of the Commerce Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Douglas Simmons of Charleston, Mo., James Simmons II of Benton, Norman Sander of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., Mark Sander of New Hamburg, Mo., and Tim Simmons, Keith Sander and Scott Sander, all of Commerce; two daughters, Sharon Beardsley of Bardwell, Ky., and Sherre Simmons of Commerce; three brothers, twin brother J.W. Simmons of Scott City, Eldon Simmons of Jackson, Mich., and Bill Simmons of Benton; a sister, Laverne Laxton of Berea, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, three brothers, two sisters and a grandson.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The Rev. Larry Lawman will officiate, with burial in Pollard Cemetery near Benton.
