CAIRO, Ill. -- J.C. "Fodrod" Childress, 83, of Cairo, died Friday, May 15, 1992 at his home. He was a retired hardware salesman. He was a member of the Baptist church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651 and Cairo Masonic Lodge 237 AF and AM. He was a certified flight instructor and was past president of the Cairo Flying Club and past chairman of the Alexander County Airport Authority. CAIRO, Ill. -- J.C. "Fodrod" Childress, 83, of Cairo, died Friday, May 15, 1992 at his home. He was a retired hardware salesman.

He was a member of the Baptist church, Cairo Elks Lodge 651 and Cairo Masonic Lodge 237 AF and AM.

He was a certified flight instructor and was past president of the Cairo Flying Club and past chairman of the Alexander County Airport Authority. He served on the Airport Authority Board of Directors for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife, Eva M. Childress, Cairo; one daughter, Janet Carol Watkins, Jackson; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Barkett Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay McDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge.
