OLIVE BRANCH, Ill. -- Jay Witt, 70, of Olive Branch died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 22, 1931, in Cairo, Ill., son of Jay and Evelyn Witt. He was raised by his stepmother, Louise Witt. He married Joanna Witt, who died in 1993.
Witt had been a bartender at Cairo and Cape Girardeau Elks clubs, Cairo VFW, and Sportsmen's Club in Miller City, Ill.
He was a member of Cairo Elks Lodge 651, Alexander-Pulaski Sportsmen's Club, and American Legion.
Witt served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include twin daughters, Debbie and Donna Witt of Boston, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Morrissa Clanahan of Mound City, Ill., Ouida Haralambidis of Olive Branch; a stepson, James Malone of Hampa, Idaho; a brother, Dr. A.G. Witt of Memphis, Tenn.; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and stepmother.
Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 9-11 a.m. Friday.
Graveside service will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Mound City National Cemetery. The Rev. Kelly Cox will officiate.
