HOUSTON, Texas -- Jay F. Barnett passed away in Houston Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at the age of 87. He was born in Broseley, Missouri, March 4, 1933, to Clyde and Gertrude Barnett.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings, Velta, Betty, Joan, Verlin, Vernon and Victor; and his granddaughter, Tessa.
He is survived by his sisters, Christine, Janet and Marilyn; his children, Jeffrey, Patti, Thomas and Lisa; and grandchildren, Taylor, Nicole and Devin.
Jay was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
His love of flying inspired him to obtain his pilot's license and ultimately he obtained all of his professional pilot's ratings. He was hired by Drury Industries as its corporate pilot and, after retiring, he continued flying his own airplane and sky dived on several occasions.
He loved country music and karaoke singing. Jay had a great singing voice and sense of humor and loved a good joke. He had a tender heart for those in need and would dress up as Santa Claus and distribute toys to hospitalized children.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
There will be a graveside service Saturday at Brown Chapel Cemetery in Broseley.
