MOUNDS, Ill. -- Jason E. "Country" Klein, 38, of Mounds passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, on Illinois Route 3 from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
Jason was born Dec. 24, 1979, in Cape Girardeau to Kenneth E. "Kenny" and Julie A. Squires Klein.
He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City, Illinois, a member of the IUOE Union 318 of Southern Illinois, a volunteer fireman for Mounds Fire Department, and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and duck hunter. Jason enjoyed his ATV riding up and down the river banks in Pulaski County. He leaves behind a very special loyal and loving friend, Trooper.
Jason was a deckhand for the Olmsted Dam and was currently employed with CGB Grain Elevator in Mound City.
Survivors include his mother, Julie A. Klein of Vienna, Illinois; his father, Kenneth E. "Kenny" Klein of Mounds; a sister, Kelly Klein (Randy Moallankamp) of Grand Chain, Illinois; two brothers, Jared (Jessica) Klein of Jonesboro, Illinois, and Jacob Klein (Cheslie James) of Cape Girardeau; brother-in-law, Brian Hill of Mounds; two special nephews, Kagan Hill and Chase Klein; a special niece, Aria Jo Klein; paternal grandmother, Barbara Klein of Cape Girardeau; maternal grandfather, Gary Squires of Cape Girardeau; uncle, Kevin (Mary) Klein; aunts, Karen (Gary) Goins and Amy Keistler; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Ann Squires; paternal grandfather, Karl Klein; and an aunt, Mary Jane Holman.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Illinois.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Monsignor Bill McGhee officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Mounds.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Southern Illinois PAWS of Anna or to the Union County Animal Control of Cobden in memory of Jason E. Klein.
