Janice M. "Janie" Meyer, 62, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
She was born March 17, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Thomas L. and Helen M. Giroir Meyer.
Meyer was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. She was owner and director of Cape Montessori School since 1972. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and its Parish Council and Council of Catholic Women.
She was an instructor of RCIA, president of Esprit Optimist Club, past secretary of Evening Optimist Club, president of the Newman Center while attending Southeast, founder of Project Prom at Notre Dame, founder and president of Cape Area Soccer, member of Cursillo, originator with Tour de Cape, and was involved with DARE and Project Charlie.
Survivors include a son, Thomas "Nick" Meyer of San Antonio; her father; two brothers, Thomas M. and David L. Meyer of Cape Girardeau; four sisters, Mary Jean McIntyre of St. Louis, Debbie Joyce of Farmington, Mo., Beth McFerron and Madonna Boyd of Cape Girardeau; and a grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel. Parish prayers will be at 7.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Thomas Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
