STURDIVANT, Mo. -- Janet Kay James, 72, of Sturdivant passed away Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 19, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Woodrow W. and Ercie Imogene Duncan Shavnore.
Janet had worked in factories over the years. She also had been a homemaker and caregiver for her daughter, Janice. She enjoyed sewing.
Janet was a member of the Dongola (Illinois) Friendship Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
She and Kenny Odell James were united in marriage March 19, 1966, and he preceded her in death July 7, 2013.
Survivors include a son, Kenny Odell James Jr. of Advance, Missouri; a daughter, Ercie (Mike) Rodgers of Sturdivant; a brother, Jiles Markham of Advance; two sisters, Olive Fay Wallace of Lowndes, Missouri, and Williodean Brown of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Dustin James, Holly James, Timothy Rodgers, Jeremy Rodgers and Kayla Rodgers; and six great-grandchildren, Brody, Bentley, Bristol, Kendra, Rylan and Michael.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Janice James.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance.
Funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Larry Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at Balch Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to help with expenses.
