Elizabeth Jane Matthews, 94, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center. She was born July 30, 1920, in Marston, Missouri, to Lon and Bess Juden Maxey Sr. She first married Hugo August Lang Jr. on Feb. 24, 1940. He preceded her in death March 2, 1993. She then married Walter John Matthews on April 30, 1974. He preceded her in death May 17, 2001...

Elizabeth Jane Matthews, 94, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

She was born July 30, 1920, in Marston, Missouri, to Lon and Bess Juden Maxey Sr. She first married Hugo August Lang Jr. on Feb. 24, 1940. He preceded her in death March 2, 1993. She then married Walter John Matthews on April 30, 1974. He preceded her in death May 17, 2001.

Jane was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She had been office manager at General Sign Company, member of Order of the Eastern Star and had been active in Cub Scouts.

Survivors include a son, Hugo (Jane) Lang III of Paducah, Kentucky; a daughter, Rebecca Jane Walls of St. Louis; six grandchildren, Kenneth Lang, Theresa Falder, Diane Neihoff, Daniel Lang, Jennifer Watson and Holly Montgomery; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; a brother, Lon Maxey Jr.; and a son-in-law, James R. Walls.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Conley officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Centenary United Methodist Church, 300 N. Ellis St., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
