James E. "Jim" York, 78, of Jonesboro, Ark., passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro.
He was born July 19, 1935, in Sikeston, Mo., son of Floyd and Mary Elizabeth Wright York.
Jim was a towboat captain on the Mississippi River 58 years. He was of the Lutheran belief, loved camping, fishing and going to Tunica, Miss.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ann "Annie" York; four sons, James "Bub" (Diane) York of Cape Girardeau, Steve (Sheila) York of East Alton, Ill., Mike (Donna) York of Cape Girardeau and Andy (Patty) York of Virden, Ill.; a daughter, Jamie (Brett) Olsen of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Pat (Frank) Dietiker of Cape Girardeau and Judy (Richard) Niswonger of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard York; two sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Friday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home, 1900 W. Washington Ave., Jonesboro.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Delbert Muller officiating. Burial will be in Nettleton Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Steve Griffin, Dewayne Merritt, Michael Merritt, Cody Wooldridge, Jack Strong and Frankie Dietiker. David Beardsley will serve as honorary pallbearer.
