James "JJ" Williamson died Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at his home in St. Peters, Missouri. He was born Feb. 11, 1952, to James and Jessie Mae Williamson. JJ and Patricia Baker were married Dec. 4, 1972, in Sikeston, Missouri
JJ was very active in the community. He served the Missouri State Highway Patrol for 15 years.
JJ was the first African-American voted to Cape Girardeau city government. He served as a member of CASA board of directors, The Salvation Army board of directors, The United Way board of directors and was a board member of Minority Affairs at Southeast Missouri State University.
JJ graduated from Sikeston Senior High in 1970. He received his B.S. in Business Administration from Sterling College, Sterling, Kansas, and his M.S.A. in Public Administration from Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau.
JJ was actively involved in Masonic work as a Master Mason. He was an active member of Golden Crown Masonic Lodge 10 A.F. and A.M. He served as Grand Secretary of St. Matthews Grand Lodge for 25 years. He was a member of the Salaam Temple 25 A.A.O.N.M.S., AF & AM for several years.
Having professed hope in Christ, JJ was a member of Southern Mission Missionary Baptist Church of Saint Peters, where he was a member until he departed this life following an extended illness.
JJ is survived by his wife Patricia of Saint Peters; a daughter, Katina Williamson of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Reginald (Tammie) of St. Louis, Travis of Cape Girardeau; Justin (Ashley) of Cape Girardeau; and daughter Sabrina Johnson of Sikeston; eight grandchildren, Marissa Williamson, Patrick Williamson, Jordan Williamson, Kameron Williamson, Brionna Lamburth, Lakera Williamson, Aryanna Williamson and Josslyn Williamson.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at Grace Baptist Church, 3601 Ehlmann Road in St. Charles. Masonic service will follow at noon, and funeral service at 12:30 p.m. Interment will be at St. Charles Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children or Siteman Cancer Center in St. Peters.
