James "J.W. Buck" William Buckman, 88, of Cape Girardeau, died Friday, March 24, 2006, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born on April 9, 1917, in Uniontown, Ky., son of Guy and Lissie Bowman Buckman. He and Della Marceil Jenkins were married on their lunch hour on Sept. 16, 1939, in Morganfield, Ky. She preceded him in death on June 3, 1999.
Mr. Buckman was a truck driver for the Sun Oil Company. He was a member of the Toastmasters Club, the Civilian Conservation Corps and he worked with the CCC to build the Audobon State Park in Henderson, Ky. Mr. Buckman was also a teacher in the CCC Camp in Morganfield. He loved to hunt and call geese and crow. He was a dedicated gardener.
Buckman attended Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green, Ky. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Cape Girardeau and also a deacon.
Survivors include one son, John R. "Johnny" Buckman of Alaska; two daughters, Patricia "Patty" Burke and husband Dennis of Cape Girardeau and Debbie Kay "Mollie" Butler and husband Tommy of Henderson, Ky.; three granddaughters, Deanna Trousdale and husband Jimmy of DeSoto, Mo., Gabrielle Hollmann and husband Bob of St. Clair, Mo. and Barbie Butler of Henderson; two grandsons, R. Daniel Burke of Catwissa, Mo., and James Buckman of Utah; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, James W. "Billy" Buckman Jr., and one daughter, Elizabeth M. "Betty" Williams.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Roger Kiepe officiating. Burial will be in the Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
