MAKANDA, Ill. -- James I. Thorn, 80, of Makanda died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ill.
He was born Dec. 5, 1920, in Hooker, Ark., son of Ira and Clema Penny Thorn. He and Georgia Helen Livers were married May 29, 1942.
Thorn was licensed with Living Word of Faith Fellowship Church in Panama City, Fla. He had been a missionary and church builder in Haiti and Mexico. Thorn retired as a bridge construction superintendent with Illinois Department of Transportation.
He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II, and had been a prisoner of war.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Ron and Terry Thorn of Makanda, Gary Thorn of Herrin, Ill., Larry Thorn of Anna, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Anna from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. J.W. Hunt and Sidney Davis officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery at Lick Creek, Ill., with military honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
