SEDGEWICKVILLE -- James Thornton Raines, 83, of Sedgewickville, died Friday, Aug. 30, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was born May 5, 1913, at Cranebrake, W. Va., son of Samuel and Jeanie Rasnick Raines. He and Caroline Margaret Griffith were married Aug. 17, 1937. She died May 16, 1991...

SEDGEWICKVILLE -- James Thornton Raines, 83, of Sedgewickville, died Friday, Aug. 30, 1996, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born May 5, 1913, at Cranebrake, W. Va., son of Samuel and Jeanie Rasnick Raines. He and Caroline Margaret Griffith were married Aug. 17, 1937. She died May 16, 1991.

Raines moved to the area from Richlands, Va., in 1946 after buying a farm.

Survivors include two sons, Steve and Mike Raines, both of Sedgewickville; a daughter, Cindy Tejero of St. Charles, three brothers, Thurman Raines of Tazewell, Va., Sam Raines of Farmington and Alvin Raines of Raven, Va.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Patton.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Vester Keesee will officiate, with burial in the Bollinger County Memorial Park Cemetery in Marble Hill.
