CHARLESTON - James Edward Surber, 81, of Charleston, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1993 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Feb. 8, 1912 in Henry County, Tenn., the son of Edward Jones and Lena A. Brown Surber. On Feb. 14, 1948 he married Anna E. Wise, who preceded him in death on Dec. 5, 1988.
He had lived in Charleston since 1937, where he was manager of the Ault Hardware Co. from 1939 to 1967. He was then employed by the Buckner-Ragsdale Co. as a sales clerk until his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Surber was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Charleston Masonic Lodge No. 407 AF & AM and Royal Arch #19, the Cape Girardeau Council #20, the Scottish Rite of St. Louis, and the American Legion. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are several aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. Rev. Gerald Penn, pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Charleston will officiate.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the Shiloh Cemetery at McKenzie, Tenn.
