BERTRAND -- Funeral service for James Stone of Tilden, Ill., formerly of Bertrand, will be held at 2 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Chapel in Charleston. The Rev. Bill Meeks will officiate, with burial in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. today.
Stone, 69, died Monday, Nov. 9, 1992, at Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, Ill.
He was born Oct. 13, 1923, at Bertrand, son of Arthur and Jessie Stone. He and Bernita Jeffries were married Nov. 7, 1946.
Stone was a self-employed logger, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, James Stone of Cape Girardeau, David Stone of Scott City, Jeff Stone of Sparta; three daughters, June Funk of Missoula, Mont., Georgia Vien of St. Louis, Judy Juenger of Marissa, Ill.; his mother of Bertrand; two brothers, Joe Stone of Bertrand, Don Stone of Pana, Ill.; two sisters, Frances Emerson of Morley, Betty Seiler of Modesto, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two grandchildren.
