JACKSON -- James E. Shank Jr., 74, of Belleville, Ill., died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at Castlehaven Nursing Home in Swansea, Ill.
He was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Syracuse, Ohio, son of James E. and Gretchen Wadsworth Shank Sr. He married Evelyn Roewe.
Shank had worked at Hunter Packing Co. and Missouri Pipe Fitting in St. Louis. He had also been a basketball referee at local schools and the teen center. He was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Belleville.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James Shank of Jackson; a daughter, Judith Shank of Belleville; a sister, Peggy Marston of Westminster, Colo.; and three grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
There is no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Valhalla Funeral Home in Belleville, with the Rev. Bernard Voss officiating.
