CHARLESTON -- James Preston "J.P." Brown, 81, of Wyatt died Friday, Jan. 6, 1995, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Ballard County in Kentucky, the son of Samuel Oscar "S.O." and Gertie Cowell Brown. He had lived in Wyatt since 1938 where he farmed until his retirement in 1984...

CHARLESTON -- James Preston "J.P." Brown, 81, of Wyatt died Friday, Jan. 6, 1995, at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Ballard County in Kentucky, the son of Samuel Oscar "S.O." and Gertie Cowell Brown.

He had lived in Wyatt since 1938 where he farmed until his retirement in 1984.

On Dec. 27, 1931, he married Mary Adelia Brown, who preceded him in death Aug. 30, 1993.

Survivors include one son, Samuel Brown of St. Louis; two brothers, Billy and Johnny Brown, both of Wyatt; four sisters, Christine Davidson of Wyatt, Louise Lynn of Benton, Mildred Fesmire of Paducah, Ky., and Peggy Griggs of Charleston; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Tom Bridges, pastor of the Wyatt Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery here.
