Dogwood, Mo. -- James Ray "Red" Phillips, 76, of the Dogwood community near East Prairie died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2005, at his home.

He was born April 23, 1929, in Dogwood, son of Thomas and Bernetta Johnson Phillips. He and Nina Barksdale were married in September 1948. She died June 16, 1989.

Phillips was a farmer and attended Dogwood United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Jim Phillips of Dogwood; a daughter, Pat Miller of Dogwood; two brothers, Elvin Phillips of Dogwood and Joe Phillips of Sonora, Calif.; five sisters, Mary Douglas of Gray Lake, Mich., Christine Hackett of Burton, Mich., Winnie Stahl of Florissant, Mo., Martha Freidwald of Creve Coeur, Mo., and Shirley Wagner of Sikeston, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prarie.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Harold Norton officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
