STEELEVILLE, Mo. -- James M. Meier, 60, of Steeleville passed away at 9:35 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, Ill. James was born Jan. 2, 1953, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Melvin and Helen Biester Meier. He married Nancy S. Pensel on Aug. 29, 1987, in Jackson. He was a Machinist at Sparta Light Metals. STEELEVILLE, Mo. -- James M. Meier, 60, of Steeleville passed away at 9:35 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the Sparta Community Hospital in Sparta, Ill.

James was born Jan. 2, 1953, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Melvin and Helen Biester Meier. He married Nancy S. Pensel on Aug. 29, 1987, in Jackson. He was a Machinist at Sparta Light Metals. James was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville.

James is survived by his wife, Nancy S. Meier of Steeleville; a son, Daniel (Kourtney) Meier of College Station, Texas; a brother, John (Deborah) Meier of Collinsville, Ill.; mother-in-law, Dorothy Pensel of Jackson; a brother-in-law, Duane (Terry) Pensel of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Julie Woodruff of Des Peres, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

James was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Steve Meier; and father-in-law, Carl Pensel.

Visitation will be at Wilson's Funeral Home in Steeleville, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Bruce Cameron officiating.

Graveside service and burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Farrar, Mo.

Memorials may be given to Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar or St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Steeleville.
