James Lee Maevers, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at The Lutheran Home.
He was born April 29, 1935, in Cape Girardeau to Albert C. and Hilda H. Zeller Maevers. He and Reva Boyer Tedder Maevers were married Aug. 3, 1971, at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Jim was a graduate of Central High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Seabee Reserves for 33 years.
He worked 13 years at Marquette Cement Mfg. Co. and then worked 27 years for McDonald Ready Mix, retiring as a salesman.
Jim gave freely of his time as he served five years as treasurer of the old Cape Girardeau Stock Car Association and 12 years as treasurer of the Whitewater Fire Department.
Jim and his wife, Reva, were avid antiquers, having items in several antique malls in the area. They owned Attic Treasurers for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Reva Maevers of Cape Girardeau; a son and a daughter by a previous marriage to Norene Brooks, Brad (Glenda) Maevers of Altenburg, Missouri, and Janet Lynn Maevers of St. Louis; a sister, Carolyn (Larry) Lusk of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, William (Barbara) Tedder of Whitewater; a stepdaughter, Deborah (Jerry) Workman of Dallas; three grandchildren, Joshua Wayne, Oliver Dean and Alexander Duncan Cano; six stepgrandchildren, Keith Tedder, Travis Blanchard, Ryan Blanchard, Cassandra (R.J.) Knight, Drew Workman and Amanda Rodgers; and nine great-grandchildren, Ellis Violet Cano, Mia Knight, Ava Cavazos, Zoe Knight, Chessa Ruby Ann Blanchard, Gretchen Tedder, Gwen Tedder, Brylon Blanchard and Brenden Blanchard.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at noon Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Tony Kobak officiating. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
