SPRING BAY, Ill. -- James "Lefty" Newell, 61, of Spring Bay, formerly of Mounds, Ill., died Saturday, Sept. 14, 1991, at his home.
He was born Nov. 15, 1929 at Mounds, son of Fred and Eva Jordan Newell.
He was a journeyman with the Weber Electrical Co. in the Peoria, Ill., area, and he was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline "Jackie" Newell of Spring Bay; two sons, Mike Newell of Mounds, and Mark Newell of the state of Georgia; four daughters, Eva Maria Van Meter of Pulaski, Ill., Lisa Lasley of Cache, Ill., and Crystal and Jamie Newell, both of Spring Bay; one brother, Fred Newell of Cairo, Ill.; two sisters, Virginia Claxton, Newton, Ill., and Ella Nora Shepherd of Mounds; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Henry Newell and Arvel Newell; and one sister, Irma Clark.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mason Funeral Home in Metamora, Ill., with the Rev. Janet Eggleston and the Rev. Kenneth Clark officiating, assisted by Arthur "Sonny" Clark. Burial will follow in the Spring Bay Cemetery.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements were announced by the Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill.
