JACKSON -- James M. Hughey, 64, of Houston, Texas, died Thursday, Dec. 12, 1996, at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston.
He was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Lilbourn, son of Melvin and Dorothy Smith Hughey. He and Mary Lou Clifton were married Dec. 1, 1950. She died Aug. 16, 1975. He later married Sandra Stearns April 16, 1978, in Lancaster, Texas.
Hughey was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, the University of Missouri, and received a graduate degree in industrial engineering from Texas A&M University.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and attained the rank of major. He received a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim Hughey of Missouri City, Texas, John Hughey of Houston; a daughter, Beth Amaro of Sugarland, Texas; his mother, Dorothy Schenimann of Farmington Hills, Mich.; two brothers, Edward and Harry Schenimann; two sisters, Mary Davis and Barb Smith; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, conducted by Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday.
