James F. Gray, 76, of Canton, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Canton, son of Shiloh M. and Lillian I. Baker Gray. He and Dorothy L. Kelpe were married June 14, 1945, in Cape Girardeau. Gray owned and operated Dog-N-Suds in Cape Girardeau, then later worked at International Harvester Co. in Canton, retiring in 1978...

James F. Gray, 76, of Canton, Ill., died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at Graham Hospital in Canton.

He was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Canton, son of Shiloh M. and Lillian I. Baker Gray. He and Dorothy L. Kelpe were married June 14, 1945, in Cape Girardeau.

Gray owned and operated Dog-N-Suds in Cape Girardeau, then later worked at International Harvester Co. in Canton, retiring in 1978.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, and United Auto Workers. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Nancy Kinzer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Katherine Pratt of Williamsfield, Ill., Jamie Hobson of Warrenton; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and a great-stepgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton from 6-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. George Mercer officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Canton.
