James Leon Givens Sr., 70, of Allenville died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
He was born Oct. 18, 1942, in Dupo, Ill., to Leon and Grace Iona McCulley Givens. He and Anna Lavada Robins were married July 17, 1965. She preceded him in death June 27, 2011.
James was assistant manager at Rhodes Truck Stop in Scott City.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his mother, Grace Givens of Chaffee, Mo.; two sons, James L. (Melissa) Givens Jr. of Princeton, Ill., and Mitchell Givens Sr. of Patton, Mo.; a daughter, Tammy (Donald) Parkhurst of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Jerry (Ida) Givens of Scott City and Charles Givens of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Lela (Dub) Welker of Chaffee, Mo., and Debra (Ron) Anglin of Gypsy, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Phil Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Kenyon Cemetery at Delta, with full military honors conducted.
