James Monroe Foster, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Nov. 20, 1913, in Dixon County, Tenn., son of Hardin and Jessie Greer Foster. He and Mildred Brenneisen were married Dec. 12, 1960, in Cape Girardeau.
James moved to Cape Girardeau May 30, 1952, from Fort Madison, Iowa. He worked for Dubinsky Theatres Inc. and was transferred to Cape Girardeau and operated the Esquire Theater 32 years, retiring in 1984. He worked a total of 53 years in theater and also worked for Crescent Amusement from Nashville, Tenn., before coming here.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 15, 1943, to Dec. 15, 1945.
James was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he was a former chairman of trustees. He was a member of Harold O. Grauel Masonic Lodge 672 AF&AM 57 years; Capaha Scottish Rite Club 53 years and a past president; Cape Shrine Club 53 years; volunteer at Missouri Veterans Home 17 years, and was a member of VFW Post 3838.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Brenneisen of Wentzville, Mo.; a sister, Corinne Corlew of Burns, Tenn.; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, two sisters and a grandchild.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home A Masonic service will be held at 7.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Moon officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with military rites conducted by Missouri Honor Guard and VFW Post 3838.
