CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Graveside service for James Elam Hempstead of Lubbock, Tex., was held Friday at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Fruitland. The Rev. William Bernauer officiated, with McCombs Funeral Home of Jackson in charge of arrangements.
Hempstead, 84 years old, died Monday, Nov. 26, 1990, at St. Mary's Hospital in Lubbock.
He was born June 28, 1906, in Cape, son of Benjamin and Betty Russell Hempstead. He and the former Edrice Clevenger were married in 1930.
Hempstead was a member of Telephone Pioneers, and past president of an Optimist Club here.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dr. James Hempstead of Lubbock, and three grandchildren.
