PINHOOK -- James W. Cross, 78, of Pinhook, died Wednesday, July 3, 1996, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Oct. 27, 1917, in Marianna, Ark., son of James Homer and Rozetta Munutte Cross. He married Eva Smith, who died March 28, 1988.
Cross moved to Missouri in 1928. He was a member of Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in rural Wyatt, where he had been assistant superintendent of the Sunday School, Board of Trustees, and Deacons Board. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, James Hill of Charleston; a daughter, Vivian Franklin of St. Louis; two brothers, E.L. Cross of Pinhook, Homer Cross of Charleston; three sisters, Devella Grant of Bloomington, Ill., Josephine Davis of Benton Harbor, Mich., Estella Briggs of St. Louis, and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston from 7-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Wyatt, with the Rev. Roosevelt Johnson officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the National Cemetery in Mound City, Ill.
