James Chamness

COBDEN, Ill. -- James L. Chamness, 76, of Cobden died Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at Union County Hospital in Anna, Ill.

He was born March 9, 1929, in Cobden, son of Raymond and Elva Haley Chamness. He and Janie L. Nance were married June 9, 1951, in Piggott, Ark. She died April 28, 2002.

Chamness was a self-employed plumber most of his life, and a member of First Baptist Church.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include three sons, Mike Chamness of Boles, Ill., Scott Chamness of Anna, David Chamness of Cobden; two daughters, Terrie Rhymer of Dongola, Ill., Debbie Walker of Parsons, Tenn.; three sisters, Helen Summers of Owensboro, Ky., Delores Witthoft of Cobden, Bertha Seske of Ohio; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Clifford Heil officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery with full military honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna.
