EAST PRAIRIE -- James T. Carter, 75, of East Prairie died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. He was born June 27, 1922, in Armorel, Ark., son of Huey A. and Tennie H. Adycock Carter. He and Eleta Star Lindsey were married Nov. 23, 1940...

EAST PRAIRIE -- James T. Carter, 75, of East Prairie died Thursday, Oct. 23, 1997, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.

He was born June 27, 1922, in Armorel, Ark., son of Huey A. and Tennie H. Adycock Carter. He and Eleta Star Lindsey were married Nov. 23, 1940.

Carter lived in Mississippi County most of his life, and was a retired construction worker. He was a member of First Christian Church in East Prairie, American Legion, Charleston VFW, Disabled American Veterans, Sikeston Eagles Club, and former member of East Prairie Masonic Lodge.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Bobby Carter of East Prairie, Phillip Carter of Cherryville; two daughters, Vonda Mince of East Prairie, Betty Jackson of Sikeston; a brother, Fred Prentiss of Heber Springs, Ark.; a sister, Joyce Young of McMillin, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, an infant sister, and a granddaughter.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with Martin Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
