James Charles Baker, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at Des Peres Hospital in Des Peres, Mo.

He was born March 26, 1929, in Advance, Mo., to Eddie and Reva Marie Bond Baker. He and Anna Belle McClain were married Sept. 5, 1947, at Arbor, Mo.

James was a member at First General Baptist Church. He was a firefighter with the city of Cape Girardeau 33 years and was also an electrician. He was director at Camp Allen and was a longtime Southeast Missouri State University Booster Club member.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Baker (Sue) of Florissant, Mo., Doyle Baker (Linda) of Chesterfield, Mo.; three daughters, Lana Parmenter (Paul) of Mexico, Mo., Jo Ellen Kimbel (Tom) of Jackson, Gail Severs (Michael) of Oakville, Mo.; two brothers, Marion Baker of Cape Girardeau, Bill Baker of Modesto, Calif.; three sisters, Virginia Clifton of Crosstown, Mo., Vickie Lange of Scott City, LaNora Walker of Lake Egypt, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Ramdial officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to First General Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau or Camp Allen.
