EUREKA, Mo. -- James A. Austin Sr. of Eureka passed away Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at the age of 82.

He was the beloved husband of the late Judy Diane Austin; cherished son of the late James B. Austin and Cleo Bom; devoted father of Julie (Richard J.) Todd, and his son, James Austin Jr.; loving grandfather of Ethan Austin; dear brother of Sandra (Carroll) York; cousin and friend to many.

Jim was a member of Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838, St. Louis Shriners, Meramec Masonic Lodge No. 313 and St. Louis Scottish Rites.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force. He was a lifetime Eagle Scout. He earned many medals and merits in the Navy as an aviation electronics petty officer and in the Air Force as a staff sergeant in aviation electronics.

Jim was a retired Crestwood, Missouri, police officer of 35 years. He found his purpose in taking care of his family and serving others. He loved his community.

During his employment as a Crestwood police officer, he earned a master's degree in law enforcement from Webster University. He owned his own home security systems business for over 40 years.

James loved reading, martial arts and exploring with his wife, Judy. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandson. James was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 at Baue Funeral Home, 311 Wood Street in O'Fallon, Missouri.

Funeral service will be at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Baue Funeral Homes is currently following CDC recommendations regarding mask and social distancing policies.

Memorials may be to Backstoppers, Wounded Warriors or Shriners Hospital for Children.
