CAIRO, Ill. -- James A. Hipps, 76, of Cairo died Saturday, March 18, 1995.
He was born Sept. 1, 1918, the son of James and Jeanette Barton Hipps in Cairo. In 1965, he married Edna Burton, who survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Burton Thomas of East Cape Girardeau and Sharon Burton Manker of North Port, Fla.; two sisters, Lucille Thompson of Cape Girardeau and Ruth Hendricks of Edwardsville; and a brother, Bob Hipps of Davis, Calif.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He also was a retired mail carrier from the U.S. Post Office in Cairo. Hipps was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo, where he served as trustee, Sunday School teacher and a former Sunday School director.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo and after 1 p.m. Tuesday at First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo, where funeral service will be at 1 p.m. The Rev. Bill Gholson will officiate, and burial will be at the Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds.
