SIKESTON -- J.D. "Jake" Fleming, 73, of Sikeston died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Jan. 30, 1925, near East Prairie, son of Arch and Rhoda Gore Fleming. He and Laverne Watkins were married on March 17, 1943.

He lived in Peoria, Ill., for 46 years where he was owner and operator of the Chardel Construction Co. until his retirement. He moved to Sikeston in 1994.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Nancy Lacy of Dunlap, Ill., and Terry Ward of Sparland, Ill.; a brother, Art Fleming of Peoria; a sister, Opal Greer of Sikeston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A brother and sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Graveside funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery north of Charleston. The Rev. J.L. Laughlin will officiate.
